I am the One I am

I do not leave my Source
with Creation I am One.
Of Earth I am, the Birch is Bro,
Our Father is the Sun.
The water is our Sister
as the waves and wind attest.
The bees, the trees, the passing grass,
We’re family and blessed.

I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
Of Earth I am, like a Birch, I am!
I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
I am One with all
and all with One!
I am the One I am!

I’m freed to set you free
and I am One with Liberty
I’m there, where You and I can be
to share the love, I am.
A child is seen, a wound is healed
a migrant meets a friend.
That’s where I am,
where sick gets care
and strangers bond and blend.

I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
Of Earth I am, like a Birch,
I am!I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
I am One with all
and all with One!
I am the One I am!

In every tender breath I draw
I share the air of Life
with other beings, and in awe
through Spirit we unite.
The Spirit guides us gently
through the busyness of day.
She gives the words, like morning dew,
she blesses and makes way.

I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
Of Earth I am, like a Birch,
I am! I am the One I am,
I am the One I am!
I am One with all
and all with One!
I am the One I am!

Lyrics: Anders Nyberg

Music: Dixstäppmarchen after Nörstmo Per Persson, Malung

Arrangement: Anders Nyberg

This is an old Swedish "gånglåt", a march from Malung, "Dixtäppmarschen," turned into an affirmation of Self. I am the One I am. The melody of the verse, with its intricate use of all the chromatic possibilities the melodic minor scale offers, can be quite lyrical and interpreted freely by the soloist. But the Chorus has a rhythmic drive that is persistent and prevailing. It knows who it is, and it is with very confident strides it goes out into the world. Otherwise I can't say much of this song as it is freshly baked and has never been tried before. But I hope that its confidence combined with its softness will attract interest beyond its humble beginnings at the "fäbod" Äsisela, in Malung, Dalarna.
