Tokpolskan
Tokpolskan
Music: Polska efter Erkgärds-Mats Grimsåker, Malung.
Arrangement: Anders Nyberg
A polska gone crazy. The different parts start in the wrong places. A conductor's nightmare. The counting does not add up. Until it does.
Great as a showpiece illustrated by movement/dancing. Let the different parts exaggerate their movements, putting down their feet heavily on the downbeat in an attempt to persuade the other parts that their take on it is the correct one. And maybe all overseen by a disheartened conductor who does not get his choir where he wants it. Until it all falls – stumbles – in place.
The idea originated from a recording session where the singers and the fiddlers had a different notion of where the downbeat was. The choreography that ensued inspired the writing of this piece.
The polska comes also in a version with lyrics: Var är ettan? (Where's the downbeat?)
